A CR2032 is the coin cell inside most Honda smart key fobs. It is a 3-volt lithium cell, 20 millimeters across and 3.2 millimeters thick. If your Honda unlocks when the fob is still in your pocket, this is the size to look for, and then confirm by reading the old cell.
The number is not a Honda part number. It is an IEC size. The same CR2032 runs plenty of other fobs. What matters is that the cup in the shell was made for that thickness.

Ninth-generation and later Accord smart keys, tenth- and eleventh-generation Civics with push-button start, fifth- and sixth-generation CR-Vs, the current Pilot and Passport, the 2018-and-later Odyssey, both HR-V generations, and the 2017-and-later Ridgeline are the core of the CR2032 group. Hybrid versions of those cars use the same shell family. The powertrain does not get its own battery size.
A CR2032 is not a CR2025. People mix them up because both are 20 millimeters wide. The CR2025 is 0.7 millimeters thinner. In a Honda smart fob that gap is enough for the contact to miss once the fob is jostled on a key ring. If the old cell says CR2032, do not “upgrade” to a thicker or thinner neighbor. There is no upgrade. There is a fit.
There is also no benefit to a rechargeable LIR2032. The LIR cell is nominally 3.6 volts and it is meant for a charger, not a sealed car fob. Honda circuits are designed around a 3-volt CR chemistry that holds voltage flat and then falls off. A fresh name-brand CR2032 from Panasonic, Murata, Energizer, or Duracell is the correct product. The date on the package should be years away, not months.
Dealers sometimes sell the cell in a Honda-labeled blister for several times the shop price. It is still a CR2032. You are paying for the counter, not a different chemistry. That trade is reasonable if you want them to open the fob. It is not reasonable if you already own a coin and a steady hand.
Cold weather makes a marginal CR2032 look dead. The chemistry slows, range collapses, and the dash may warn you on the first frosty morning. A cell that was already two years old will fail that test first. Heat does the opposite kind of damage: a fob left on a dashboard in Arizona, the Gulf, or an Australian summer cooks the cell and can warp the shell. Neither climate changes the size you buy.
Changing the cell
Remove the emergency key, twist a coin in the notch, and note which face of the CR2032 is up before you lever it out. The plus mark in the plastic is the authority. Seat the new cell until the clip clicks. Close the shell fully. A half-closed Honda shell drains the new cell and lets moisture in.
Test from outside the car. Lock and unlock from a few meters. If you only test with the fob in your hand against the door, you will not notice a weak contact.
If the fob still misbehaves
If a new CR2032 does nothing, it is backward, the contact finger is crushed, or the fob was never a CR2032 car. Open it again before you buy a second cell. The start-button touch procedure still works with a dead or missing cell because the immobilizer is a separate coil. Use that to get home, then sort the shell on a table.
A CR2032 that dies in days is not a sizing issue. Something is keeping the fob awake, or the fob needs a software update a dealer can see and you cannot.
What to spend, and what not to buy
Expect to pay a few dollars for one name-brand CR2032 and a little less per cell in a two-pack. Buy two if you have a spare fob. Do not buy a rechargeable, and do not buy a CR2032 “equivalent” that does not print CR2032 on the cell itself.

Questions people ask
Is CR2032 the battery for all Honda key fobs?
It is the usual battery for smart proximity fobs. Older flip keys are often CR1616. Read the old cell.
How long does a CR2032 last in a Honda fob?
Plan on two to four years. Cars that constantly talk to the fob, and extreme heat or cold, shorten that.
Can I replace a Honda CR2032 myself?
Yes. A coin opens most smart fobs. You do not program the fob after the swap.
