A Honda CR-V key fob battery is a CR2032 on the smart keys that came with the fifth generation from 2017 and the sixth generation from 2023. The fob lets you walk up and press start with the key in a pocket. Older CR-Vs that still use a turned metal key are the ones that may carry a smaller remote. Read the stamp if the shell does not look like a proximity fob.

The fifth-generation shell covers 2017 through 2022, including the refresh and the hybrid that arrived around 2020. The sixth-generation shell from 2023 looks different and still holds a CR2032. A power tailgate button is common on EX and above. It does not add a battery. Awd badges, engine size, and the hybrid motor do not either.
Open the smart fob by sliding out the emergency key and twisting a coin in the notch. The CR-V fob is easy to crack because people pry at the seam near the tailgate button where the plastic looks like a gap. The designed gap is the key slot.
CR-Vs live outside in driveways, and the fob often lives in a mudroom by the door that faces that driveway. That is a classic fast-drain setup. Move the fob overnight before you decide the CR-V key system is faulty. A name-brand CR2032 is the first part, not a new fob.
In Europe, Australia, and other markets the CR-V, including hybrid versions, follows the same coin-cell number. Button icons change. The cup does not become a CR1616 just because the car is right-hand drive.
If the fob still misbehaves
If the tailgate button fails but lock and unlock work after a battery change, reseat the rubber mat. The cell is fine. If nothing works, check polarity. Hold the fob on the start button to drive. Programming is for a replacement fob only.
